THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE CHAMPAGNE

Champagne a white sparkling wine associated with celebration and regarded as a symbol of luxury, typically that made in the Champagne region of France.

I can remember the first day I tasted champagne I couldn't understand the hype about the whole thing although after a while the taste grew on me and so I could take it during celebrations and all, but it's still not the first drink I will ask for at a party.
So why are we talking about Champagne today? As I was researching a few days ago I stumbled on the world's most expensive champagne: "Gout de Diamants" :which means "Taste Of Diamonds"

Hand crafted from 18 carat solid gold, Gout de Diamant superman style signature logo is centered by a single flawless deep-cut white diamond weighing 19 carats, replacing the Swarovski crystal that normally inhibits the space. This bottle was created for an unnamed private client and guess who was commissioned to create this work of art? Our very own Alexander Amosu, the luxury brand designer and no stranger to pimping iPhones and BlackBerries with diamonds and other stones. This bottle of champagne cost 284 million Naira. I screamed when I saw this: a friend of mine expressed her dislike for the outrageous price, but then if you look at it this way: in the world there are people who have outrageous wealth, money, cash flow (call it whatever you want to call it), as an entrepreneur your job is to device means of how that money can get to your bank account, through products you create, leaving the consumer and you the seller happy.

I present to you the World's Most Expensive Champagne...Enjoy.

Do take care of yourself and have a lovely weekend.

Business Lesson 101

As you all know I am the créateur of House of Ularée or Ularée, a fashion accessories company, oh I love the sound of that, don't mind me. Anyway I will be working on a series titled Business Lessons 101, here I would be talking about my mistakes, my goals, my good points, my scores and my progress in the world of business. I hope we will all learn a lot from my experience, thank you.

The first time I decided to be on my own i.e be an entrepreneur, follow my dreams, I was excited and naive. I had the picture of DSW or Macy's in my head and that was what I wanted for my business, I still do don't get be wrong.

I had written a huge business plan, where I was going to use about 10 million Naira to set up the company, office space, staff salaries at least for 6 months, running cost, official vehicle, fuel/diesel funds( as we battle with electricity daily) etc. When I got my proposal ready, armed with it I went out in search of the funds to kick start the business, off course I was thrown out of every office and home. How did I expect to be given that amount of money without a good track record? With my tails between my legs I went back home crying and declaring that it was time to get a 9 to 5 as this entrepreneurship wasn't my thing.

Fast forward to present day, I have learnt that the mistakes you make with as little as #16,000 or $100 are the same mistakes you will make with a million dollars when you do not have good business expertise to back it up.

After learning the hard truth I choose to start small, first of all I looked for things I could do with little or no cash e.g the internet. Even though the internet isn't really great in Naija it can be affordable and one can get by nevertheless. So I subscribed for one of the cheapest internet services, the 8 pm to 8 am schedule. With this google became my friend, I devoured everything I could get on starting a business and I still do, cos one never stops learning.

Secondly I got people to pre order their products, that way I didn't have my money tied down.. now in this aspect family will always come through for you.

Key notes: Start small and make google your friend.

Pause: Time to Quit: Will Continue another day: Ciao

I thought this was just for laughs at first until I checked the website and it actually worked. Now who says Nigerians aren't creative. Its high time we drop the 9 TO 5 job hunt after university and explore our creative vibes.

N/B: using this opportunity to say RIP today. Exactly a year ago Nigeria was affected by the Dana airline crash. Rest In Peace my friend Ayoola Somolu and to all who lost their lives. You will all be missed.

My Heroine Of The Week/Beulah Chigbu

I came across Beulah's story a few months ago, and yesterday when I saw her picture on my friends dp I had to probe further. Beulah turned 4 yesterday, I was to put up this post yesterday but I was so tired after my numerous activities, which I will gist y'all another day, so its coming today a day later and still as wonderful as well.

Question: why should a 4 years old girl be my heroine?

Answer: a lot. I don't even know where to begin but I will start from somewhere. .

Beulah who was born on the 20th of May, in Nigeria was diagnosed with Tibial hemimelia of the right leg, which is a congenital absence of the tibia and in her case absence of the patella (Knee cap) in lay man's English she was born without a knee cap and the big bone between the knee and ankle, as a result of this, her leg had to be amputated. By the time she was 2 years old her leg was amputated. Her mother describes how she felt when she was given the news www.bellanaija.com/2013/03/28/bn-our-stories-our-miracles. You can also find pictures of Beulah on the link as well, since the internet I am using has refused to upload my pictures..

What strikes me about this little girl is her confidence, she is the most confident little girl I have ever come across and I will say thanks to her parents who have done a fantastic job. She is not shy, or afraid, she is ready to conquer the world, nothing is stopping her. I also like to say that her father is a wonderful father. from the time she was 3 months her father would talk to her, tell her how pretty and wonderful she was, and all the sweet magical words that fathers can say to their daughters which builds their confidence and make them grow into great beautiful strong women.

From my little research I know that a good relationship with daddy creates a fantastic marriage, relationship. Trust me no man can tell a little girl, who sees her father as her hero, lies, you can't mess with her, you can't deceive her. Thumbs up to her father

Pause:
Continue:

When I put up her picture on my dp, a friend of mine asked me about her and I narrated the story one things she said was: "Mehn see her confident smile and people that have two legs will be there complaining", this got me thinking. I need to stop complaining and thank God for everything I have no matter how little.

I am in love with people who see beyond their disabilities and live a wonderful fulfilled life.

Please if you have a story you would like to share with us, just send me an email @ tmkamson@gmail.com

As you read this post spread the news you never know this may save a life

N/B: the IREDE foundation has been set up by Beulah's mother. Please check it out.

JUST FOR LAUGHS

I was going to Adeola Odeku in Victoria Island, Lagos when I spotted this in traffic, now cos I was with my darling and alone I couldn't take the picture. Fast forward to this evening, I went out with a friend, convinced her to go through this route again, she not only went through this route but she stopped by the side of the road while I took a proper picture. This can only happen in Nigeria don't you think?

Hope you have a good laugh as I did and have a wonderful week ahead.
Ciao.

LIZ JACKSON/COHBAMS ASUQUO

Inspiration Wednesday: I checked my archives and thought to share these stories with you. A while back I watched the show "the secret millionaire" and they feature LIZ JACKSON. Now if you don't know this show it's a show where millionaires disguise themselves and go into the slums looking for people to help, to give them a brighter feature. What struck me about this millionaire is that she was/ is blind, despite this she has a successful business, which employs about 130 people, 6 offices, a husband and a daughter.

Second person is our very own Cohbams Asuquo we all know he is blind, he was born blind, yet he has over come this and done very well for himself. I love the speech he gave @ TEDxEuston, his topic: "The gift of Blindness". I loved the way he talked about the brighter side of his situation: he had said something once that: "being blind is his legal right to take a bowl, stand on the road and start begging, but he choose not to do that. Today he is one of the most successful Nigerian music producers. He too has a wife and a wonderful son.

Two things common about Cohbams and Liz is that they didn't seat down blaming the whole world for their problems instead they choose to work around it and make a difference, succeed in life like every other person.

I think it is time we look back at our lives and tell ourselves that we can succeed no matter what.

Take care of yourself and have a lovely day.

INTRODUCING ONE OF MY FAVORITE NAIJA AUTHORS: LARA DANIELS

Lara Daniels  a registered nurse by day and an avid African romance suspense author at night. In 2009 she published her first novel "Love in Paradise", now this one I still haven't read, but will soon get round to reading it, but her second novel "Love at Dawn" I did read and I must say I was shocked that I loved it, very interesting as well. Her third one, "Lessons in Love", I am dying to read. This I must say is going to be an interesting read. The excerpt I have read I cannot wait to gobble the entire book. I looove the character Tara and the way she talks  OMG... trust me I don't want to give out to much but please please crab your copies now...

Ha before I forget Tara does get some lessons in love from Jimi...hmmm would they fall in love or will they not? My lips are sealed..

The book is available on amazon right now, or check her website www.laradaniels.org or www.laradanielwrites.com for more information.

Wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

MAY 1/ HAPPY WORKERS DAY

Hi everyone I hope we all enjoyed the one day bank holiday...for me I did... I had been thinking of how I was going to make it to the book reading today, as you all know Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was reading from her new book "Americanah" at Patabah bookshop in surulere. Since the owner of the bookshop is a friend I had called in earlier asking for a signed copy, thank God I did cos by the time I got there the paperback was almost all gone.

The book shop was so full inside and outside I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Like my friend said in her own words: "chei chimamanda has hammered". LOL...

I certainly got my book autographed by her and I was so excited. I must say she looks lovelier in person and yes she doesn't like Brazilian, Peruvian hair....lol.. but Mehn!!!! does her hair look very healthy.

I asked a young man to please use my phone and record a few of the answer and question clips, as I had my darling Yosola with me, standing and sweating at the same time. Now this guy: I just don't want to call him names: he didn't do anything at all...pssssshhhhhh (sighing out loud).
Anyways these are some of the pictures I took...

I tried to get the picture of the guy standing behind her with the phone but couldn't... I think he is her manager or something... My dears she really has hammered..
People outside the bookshop.. all these books gone by the end of the event..

I am so tired now just loosened my hair and had a wash, want to settle in and begin reading the book, but can't at this moment, need to rest before my madam wakes up...

Do take care of yourself and have a lovely day

N/P: Stanbic IBTC just sacked 250 staff
Visa Phone just sacked about 60 staff... I hear for the Stanbic IBTC that this is just the beginning as they want to have more outsourced staff and less permanent staff...

Hmmm I can't imagine what the families, that were affected by this would be going through.. I just pray for them that they will find the courage to see this through.

15 things I Love About My Husband

Hello everybody today's post is inspired by  Myne Whitman's post

I was raised knowing that I would have to marry a bonny man as it was the right thing to do, being the first born and all (tradition right?). So I set out looking for eligible bonny young men to marry. For years I didn't find any one that liked me or that I liked, but I still continued praying about it. After university I realized that I had to broaden my scope or I may not go down that path...LOL...
Anyways when Temi came into the picture I sure as hell didn't want to marry a Yoruba guy but as I decided to broaden my scope I let it flow and flow it did.

SO 15 things I love about my husband: as follows

1. He is dependable... Temi can be in Timbuktu and still get a call from me if I have a flat tire, he would sort it out.
2. He is tall a lot taller than me and I love that.
3. He is handsome and has big eyes, love that my daughter has his eyes.
4. He is God fearing
5. Not traditional in his thinking I usually tease him that he is a white man in a black man skin
6. He cooks and really does that well. I hate to say this but he cooks better than me
7. He is very adventurous: Beware this may lead to High Blood Pressure....lol just kidding)..He is not afraid to follow his dreams
8. Very supportive of whatever I choose to do with my life:
9. Not selfish
10.Very intelligent
11. Reads a lot, vast and wide.
12. He is very educated... I call him Professor some times.
13. He is very close to his family ie his siblings and I love that relationship.
14. I think when Yosola grows up she is going to boast to all her friends that her father is the best dad in the world, because he is.
15. He reads my blog

Anyways take care of yourself and wishing y'all a wonderful weekend.

Check This Out

Before I started the process on how to make bags, I had a business plan of how I was going to build an empire, in fact my starting cost was so huge that Temi told me I wasn't serious....IMAGINE.

Over the years I have learnt that nothing comes easy. With all the glamor that comes with fashion one will think that its as easy as ABC: well that's not true.

According to Tiffany Amber: the fashion industry is hard work, harder than you think, you've got to have the passion to stay there no matter what

I loooove fashion accessories and I love making them.... I may not be perfect but I am getting there. With this I present to you: Ami Clutch

This clutch bag is uniquely dyed and hand crafted from start to finish.

The first time I tried dyeing, it was a disaster, I considered giving up, but like everything you get better with practice.

I hope you like it.

For orders call 08094440178 or send me an email: tmkamson@gmail.com

Take care of yourself and have a good night's rest.

Ciao.

P.S. Yosola is 7 months today can you believe it?

IT WILL COME IN DUE TIME

Good morning everyone I just want to share some words of encouragement.. I know that sometimes we are in this place where we ask if we will ever be successful in life or just remain failures in the eyes of everyone else. I have learnt that everything will eventually come in due time, just hang in there.

Check out this lady I stumbled upon Joanna Quaas....she is the world's oldest gymnast.....You really don't want to know how old she is...

Check out this blog please I beg of you Myne whiteman's especially her yesterday's post on infertility www.romancemeetslife:When-Are-You-Having-Children.... I am trying to get the link but I cannot, I believe if you type this it will be okay. It was posted on the 15th of April..... the comments that follow moved me to tears and laughter.. I must say: I think Nigerians are very insensitive...

Strictly for laughs....uploading picture now...LOL

I am the one in the middle my sister is by my left and a friend whom i am sure if she sees this picture she would skin me alive... can you imagine i actually thought this skirt suit was hott...

I leave you with this website... so dear to my heart...http://www.simivisitsgrandma.com
This has made me feel on top of the world although I would have liked that they used Ibifiri Kamson not Tamunoibifiri Mobolaji-Kamson.... Anyways all is well..

Happy New Month/Special Giveaway Month

Hello everyone I hope we all enjoyed the Easter holidays for me I did. I went to Bonny my home town where there is 24/7 electricity and I had fun. I ate like a pregnant woman all the food I had been craving for a long time. I ate bole and fish (Roasted Plantain and fish).
I can remember the first time I saw them selling bole and groundnut in Lagos, I was confused as to how they could eat things so dry and together for that matter, but in Port Harcourt, Rivers state we have the bole with fish with some salivating sauce. Now I ate this till I could eat no more because I don't know when next I will be in Port Harcourt again.

I also ate what we call Peum Peum: now this is periwinkle cooked still in its shells, mixed with cow tail, and what you would call assorted meat. You suck on the peum peum which is deliciously garnished with a peppery sauce. Lastly I ate fresh fish soup....Mehn I am still salivating right now.

Anyways I am back to Lagos and I am back to my diet. Eating only unripe plantain porridge and beans.. Very boring right, but hey what can man do..lol

Now I had promised you all a while ago that I will post Ularee products which is my brand name on this blog and hope that I get customers, comments and suggestions as well. My first collection is out... I hope you like it.
This earrings where crocheted with yarn, it can come with crochet thread as well.
Design mine, pattern mine. these earrings are very affordable and can be used for whatever occasion. they are very simple and glams up your style as well. And did I forget to say they can be washed/cleaned if need be...nice one right..

This bag is my first collection and I will like to call it the "Toru" bag as the first customer to buy it is called Ibitoru or Toru. They can be made in different colors. I tried to take a professional picture but I don't have a good camera for now and since you can spot my daughter trying to play with the bag you must know that its not easy working and looking after her at the same time. The bag is a mixture of real leather which is white, and Ankara fabric. I love the detailing and the mixture. I love the size as well and the way it seats carefully. This bag can be used for all occasion, in fact this is my to go bag for now.

Please feel free to place your orders and yes free delivery within Lagos.
tmkamson@gmail.com. 08094440178 my contact. let me know what you think.

I got to run as I am working on a product for a client. I promise to get better pictures of my products.

Yes a give away is coming soon. Anybody that can tell me what particular Ankara fabric I used will get this bag in their preferred color and the earrings. Spread the word guys I am waiting.

Ciao.

PS. sorry about the pictures being uploaded more than once...hmmm I should learn to be more Internet savvy don't you think...LOL

Rivers State/ Tribe Ijaw

Good morning every body so this week we continue our different tribes in Nigeria... Its time for my tribe. I will also try not to be to partial and try not to be to hard because this is so dear to my heart..

The Rivers State people especially the Riverine areas (villages and towns surrounded by water, sea, etc) are very clean. I know it is a taboo in my place to use the bowl/bucket used in the toilets in the kitchen as well. In fact it is not allowed into the kitchen.

They are very English in their ways if you know what I mean (this is attributed to their early interaction with the white)

They are rich...(water is a source of wealth, easy access to internationally trade)...

The men make sure they are properly dressed, the women as well. There is a certain pride in them when they know they are properly dressed.

We are very rich in culture, women save their wealth in gold, corals and wrappers.

There is this saying that a lot of the men who relocate to Port Harcourt end up marrying Port Harcourt girls..(note Temi is a victim of this...lol) Why? I guess maybe it has to do with our delicacies.. We have a lot of beautiful, delicious, expensive dishes that when served to a man, he most certainly will forget his own name.

We are one of the best swimmers in the world, wish our government would realize that and work towards getting us to represent Nigeria in the Olympics.

I hear fertility is very high amongst males and females and it has been attributed to the sea food that we eat almost on a daily basis....

Down side

Our pride/ego is so big especially with the men that it hinders them from learning anything...when you can't learn you can't grow, when you can't grow you can't make money.

Promiscuity is very hard. I find it annoying that I should have kids for different men...why should I even have a kid for a man when he can't even take care of himself. What is going to happen to my unborn child? I wish the women will learn a lot from the Igbo women who will make sure they squeeze enough out of the men to be able to take care of themselves and their family.

Down side of oil being discovered: everybody's focus is on it, and this goes to the whole of Nigeria. Now there are a lot more things that can come out from the islands other than oil.... Bonny Island can have one of the largest paper manufacturing company in the world...because of the pulp leaves which just lie fallow in the creeks.

Above all I love my tribe and my people, I have a lot of great plans for them and I hope I can accomplish them before I died.

Wish you all a wonderful week and make sure you achieve something great this week.

P.S. will like to say thank you to all those that read "Kemka's story... thank you for your comments, emails, whatsapp messages, Facebook messages, text messages and phone calls. Kemka's mother is really grateful.

Kemka's hero, His Mother

With the permission of my friend I will re post this for everyone. I feel this will give people hope, help in situations, encourage families and who knows even help in donations... so I have decided not to post about the next Nigeria tribe.. doesn't mean I have forgotten it, getting back to it after this post...

My Son Kemka

The first and only note I have ever written on facebook was about my son Kemka on the 20th of May 2011 when he turned 1, and here I am again writing about Kemka, my beautiful, unique, awesome son.
Kemka was 15 months when I realized he wasn't answering to his name. This discovery started my journey down a long, painful yet worthwhile journey. I watched him for a while, then voiced my concerns to family and close friends. Everyone thought: "Nyema, you are over thinking it". He has met all his milestones, he babbles and even has quite a few words, he counts 1-3 when walking down the stairs, he is a happy kid! maybe he just doesn't like the name kemka, became the joke of the day.

But as a mother I worried, I was afraid. Slowly I started to notice he didn't play with his peers, wouldn't say bye when I left him to work, wouldn't make eye contact even if you had your face up in his, would rather play on his own and he slowly started to loose the few words he had, and slowly stopped following simple commands. I saw my son disappear from my home and I just had a stranger walking around in his body. By the time Kemka was 19 months I needed nobody to tell me something was wrong. I decided to see the GP with him during my maternity leave in the UK. I did and after seeing Kemka she referred us to a psychologist when Kemka was 22 months and after about 2 hours he came up with a report which was inconclusive as Kemka's hearing test came back fine and didn't quiet fit the requirement for a developmental defect. The doctor recommended that we have a repeat eval when Kemka turned 3. By this time kemka had completely stopped eating, stopped all forms of communication with us expert pulling your hand and taking it to what he wanted, and had stopped following any directives or commands at all, wouldn't respond to his name even if you yelled. This was frustrating and scary. I cried so much I wished I was dead. The more people told me nothing was wrong with him the more I was going insane because I felt everyone thought I was mad. I waited another month then opted to see a pediatrician for a milestone eval. When I told the pedriatrican what I knew to be the history, he conducted anN evaluation for Autism and other related illness on Kemka as well. 1day postpartum............that was a lot to take in.........

We saw the speech therapist and her eval showed Kemkas communication level at the stage of 6 months and by this time he was 24 months. Again a suspicion of Autism but cannot be diagnosed until he is three years old. By this time google had told me all I needed to know about Autism and more, and I woke up in hell every morning  after then. I became afraid of the future what it will hold for my beautiful boy, I prayed many prayers, I cried many tears, I felt completely helpless, wanted to spin my magic wand and make my son OK, make it all go away lil miss fix it just wanted to fix it. My greatest fear came when we will walk into a public place and Kemka will walk away and just keep walking away not looking back to find mummy or anyone else, not even if you screamed his name, I feared that my son didn't know me any more, would just keep walking if I didn't physically stop him and he would walk away and disappear forever, that thought visited my dreams every night. We came back home and I started a search for therapist in Nigeria specialized in autism and I found Blazing Heart Autism Center. Kemka started his therapy with Blazing Heart and they were doing a good job, managed to slowly bring back his eye contact if you stood up in his face. I continued my research with dear google and then I read about early intensive intervention therapy for children 18-36months with remarkable results of possibly a full recovery from autism. I discussed with my husband and we decided that we should try this option with Kemka. We had to take the decision for me to take a leave of absence from work for a year to enable me spend time with Kemka as he goes through therapy.

Kemka is soooooooooooooooooo much better now, he is 34 months now, he has amazing eye contact, seeks you out to play, he understands simple commands, when we go out to a public place, he turns around to look for his mummy's hands holds on firm and would never let go....And I am reassured my boy isn't going anywhere. He isn't fully there yet, but I know he is fighting his way through. I see my son coming back to the happy playful kid he used to be, I see him filing my world with love, joy and laughter. Its been a rough journey, still so much more to be achieved, still some hurdles to cross, some challenges to overcome, more victories to be won. I still cry quiet a few tears but some of them are now tears of joy.

"I cried as I read this and I am so happy that Kemka has the best mum ever.

The Yorubas

Hello guys today I am talking about the Yoruba tribe, I am married to a Yoruba man but I will try not to be partial. lol

Anyways I loved the comment, emails and face book messages I got from the last post about the Igbo tribe.. Nice one keep them coming guys cos its very encouraging.

The Yoruba's are known to be scholars. I find it so funny that I will go to a friend's house and see a picture of their grandfather or mother graduating from a university in the UK, in 1914 which was very rear at that time. (If you know what i mean)

Secondly I think they are one tribe that has the highest set of British Nigerians as a lot of them where born in the UK before the law was changed.

I find them also very enterprising as in that the Balogun Alhajas seat down on pots of gold if you know what I mean. They may not know how to speak English, in fact a lot of them just stick to the Yoruba that they know, but the business of making money they understand. Like I said in my last post money doesn't care what language you understand provided you understand it's principles.

I find both their men and women to be very hardworking and enterprising, I like to think that they work hard and party harder.

When I lived in Port Harcourt, my dream in life was to go to school, graduate, do a 9 to 5, marry, have kids, retire at most build one or two houses for retirement benefits and then grow old and finally die... all these changed when I got to Lagos and I saw what a lot of my mates even girls younger than I was working it..hustling... struggling to see their business work and grow. I watched friends start from nothing to something... Lagos put me on my feet. My Yoruba friends put me on my feet. I still had the dreams of marrying and having kids, but the 9 to 5 changed I realised that I loved being my own boss ( in my head if Jumoke could do it then I could). So instead of wanting just one or two houses I would love a lot more, strictly for business purposes.

They are not to particular about having male children... even though you still find some that wont change.

The down sides of the Yoruba's

They are very clueless as to the other tribes in Nigeria. I find it annoying when they refer me and all the other tribes as Igbo... are they for real..don't they know that there is Niger delta, there are states like Rivers State, Cross Rivers state etc...

They can be tribalistic, although I  think a lot of that is changing as you know I am married to a Yoruba guy...(lol I am sure you will say this lady is just rubbing it in...sorry can't help it).

Now I get to their culture I just don't understand why I have to prostrate as a sign of respect. I can show my respect by just being polite... I think they should be open to other people's culture.

This is what I find very amusing: Yoruba's are the most unserious Moslem's I have ever come across. I can never forget the day i went for a Yoruba Muslim's wedding after the Muslim rights and wedding, a pastor suddenly materialized and started praying in GOD the father, GOD the son and GOD the Holy Ghost I was as shocked as can be.

I think I will stop here... please let me know what you think and if there is anything I have missed just feel free to send them in.

P.S. "this is not in anyway intended to insult anybody or tribe.

Do take care and have a lovely day...

Various Tribes (Igbo Tribe)

Nigeria is a country with about 150millions citizens and counting, with different ethnic groups, tribes, villages, languages and divers cultures I love this about Nigeria as it makes the country a very interesting one. I decided that over time I will do a study on a lot of the tribes in Nigeria or should I say as many tribes in Nigeria I can blog about, talking about their weakness and a lot about their strength.
The Ibo tribe is my first point of call as I love their enthusiasm when it comes to making money. Now if you want to be an entrepreneur or are already one, I will advise that you have a few trusted Ibo friends by your side, understudy them as they conduct their business and learn a lot about endurance, determination and not eating one's profit until they have arrived.  (ie this advise is for me)...

I know this guy who goes by the name "OKE Japan", he sells very beautiful professional cameras in Lagos Island. Now his shop/kiosk/store is very small in fact five people can barely seat inside it comfortably (meaning he doesn't pay a lot of money for over head. LOL). Now if you stay in his place for like 3 hours which you usually will do as there are a lot of customers, you will be surprised to find out that he has sold goods worth 3million and all in cash. "His slogan is if you want to speak grammar speak to my wife she has PhD, but if you want to talk business and money come and talk to me, that is what I understand).

An Ibo man will sleep under his brother's bed for 7 years just to learn a trade, after which his brother will settle him, meaning paying him off and sending him off to go and start his own business.

After reading Chinua Achebe's novel "there was a country", I realised that if the federal government had just recognized the talent the Ibo's had and had encouraged them, giving them resources and good standardization of the products, Nigeria would have become the next China or better still blown up before China did. Will this ever happen I almost doubt that, but like always I hope.

It's only an Ibo man that if the government banes the use of generators in Nigeria, instead of lamenting for years and thinking of how this bad luck must be from his village, will just switch to selling transformers without asking questions. I also love them as they mostly believe in volume sales and make good use of it. It surprised me when I got to Republic of Benin and I was told that there is an Igbo market, I had to go and see it myself.

Their weaknesses

They can be very fast and I mean that in a bad way. One is almost very careful when one has a business deal with them..lol

Because of their gift of making money, they usually aren't interested in going to school which in a way is comme si comme ca.

Although its gradually changing, Male kids are considered better than female kids. I think this is still prominent amongst Ibo's and I wish it will change soon, that's why I am so happy when I see Igbo families that have strong females.

I gotta sign off...

above all there is an exception to every rule and I think they have a lot in common with the Chinese.

P.S. "Please this post is not intended to insult anybody...just observations....comments will be welcomed.

My Hero/Happy mother's day

Okay so I have been having phones issues for a long time now and it hasn't been funny. I have resolved to stop using post paid and go to pre-paid. its easier to track my credit use.

Anyways I missed you all and I have to just make it up. I have been working on my bag designs and setting up a business I must say not easy as one is also juggling motherhood.

P.S. Check this space cos some big giveaways: coming soon.

I was just chatting with my neighbour today that men staying sexy and being a mother ain't easy.. This evening I was smelling of baby poop, baby vomit, spit and baby milk. You can imagine how I smelt horrible. Since my darling's bed time is 7pm, after her bed time, I took a hot shower, now that is priceless.

I should have written this post a while ago but couldn't... on the 25th of February I went to pick up Temi from the airport. so with Yosola strapped in her car seat, the radio jamming some lovely tunes I hit the road, ready to go and pick my man. By the time I got to the toll gate, I realised that in my enthusiasm I forgot my bag, meaning I also forgot my wallet meaning I had no money on me. Chei yepa!!!! what was I going to do. Who was going to believe this babe with dark sunglasses, black air conditioned car, that she didn't have a dime on her.
Anyways I just said a short prayer before I got to the toll, quickly I just called out to the attendant and politely explained that I had forgotten my wallet blah blah blah. Without any shakara, the young man told me that I could go... I was so glad and touched...

I know sometimes it's hard to believe good things still happen in this great country of ours, sometimes I even almost don't trust a lot of people I come across as I have been duped several times, but I must say Ibrahim the toll gate attendant was my hero for the day.

Wishing every mother, intending mothers, god mothers, grandmothers happy mothers day...

P.S. "I saw this on facebook : "if every one's mum is the best then who owns the mums that are doing witchcraft?"

Lol I laughed and from the stories I have heard some peoples mums aren't good people at all... But we still wish them a happy mothers day as well.

Happy mother's day to my mum "Prof. Aduabobo Ibitoru Hart

MY WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY

Just before I gave birth to my daughter I was weighing 95kg, meaning I had gained a lot  considering I weighed 55kg before I became pregnant ie (gaining appr. 40 kg). During the last stage of the pregnancy, I stopped looking at the scale each time I went to the hospital. I was afraid I had gotten up to a hundred kilos. Anyways when I gave birth I was determined to loose the weight, thereby learning a lot from the experience. You aren't allowed to exercise until after your 6 weeks check up, so I just changed my diet, note  I didn't go on a diet as I was breastfeeding, I just had a lifestyle change. Instead of fizzy drinks I took water. Instead of white rice I ate brown rice. Instead of white bread I ate wheat bread with peanut butter, instead of a lot of carbs I took more proteins like beans and a lot of unripe plantain porridge.

I had my cheat days though: those days I will drink a bottle or two of coca cola, maybe sometimes have a little ice cream, eat white rice, or white bread etc. After my 6 weeks check up, I started my exercise, now my dears I learnt that exercising and changing one's habit isn't as easy as it looks... There were days when I will just decide I can't do it any more but I had made a vow that when my daughter is born I will learn to eat right and teach her also how to, this kept me going... I am still struggling with the fizzy drinks as I used to be a coke addict averaging about 5 bottles of coca cola a day.

Right now I weigh 63kg meaning I have lost about 30kg. I am very impressed with myself, giving myself a tap on the back...lol

Like I said eating right isn't very easy, one just has to take it one day at a time, and that is what I have been doing. I hope I  am able to keep my good diet as it also has helped with the growth of my hair and finger nails, truly what you take in produces results...

I will have to stop here for now as I can't wait to lay my head on the pillow.

Please tell me about your weight struggles if you have had any before and how you dealt with yours.
Do take care of yourself and have a good night's rest.

WHERE CAN ONE FIND MONEY IN NIGERIA?

First of all I will like to say congrats to Nigeria for winning the African cup of nations... Now I must confess I didn't support them at all, didn't even believe in them but I guess I had to eat my words when we did a go job today.

Now back to our topic for today.... it baffles me that a country where almost 80% of the population live under a dollar, yet they able to survive, in the grassroots, the corner shops guys are able to survive everyday. I got into a discussion with the lady that usually comes to my house to clean, and we were just talking about everything. As we were talking I asked her if she was still selling recharge cards for phones, she said no and I asked why? in her own words:

Me: why did you stop selling the cards
Cleaner: because no gain
Me: are you serious?
Cleaner: yes aunty
Me: so what will you do now
Cleaner: I have a shed were I sell small small things like groundnut, garri, etc
Me: are you serious. And how much did you use to start it?
Cleaner: ten thousand Naira
Me: that's great. but do you make profits
Cleaner: yes I do, like when I buy a bucket of groundnut for seven hundred naira, by the time I sell it I make about #1,500 (naira) and groundnut and garri moves fast a lot.
Me: interesting
Cleaner: I want to start selling coke because it will bring more money
Me: that is very good.

After this talk with the lady it dawned on me that the money in Nigeria is not in the cooperate world, or in the banks, the money in Nigeria is on the streets. The equivalent of this lady, in America is the "mum and pop", stores.

Lessons learnt: if I behave like the cleaner with my money I will be able to have invested it in something small and be able to get at least #5,000 in my hands everyday.....

Note to self: we underestiamte the determination of a man who has decided to work hard.

Its time to go. Take care and have a lovely day.

I AM BACK

Aww just looked at my last post and it's dated January 4th,  I should be doing more.
Anyways I think I am really getting a hang of motherhood and loving it, so more posts to come. My daughter who is 5 months, is now on a schedule. She now sleeps all through the night between 10 to 12 hours and that is pure heaven. By 7 p.m she is feed properly, note: once a baby is well feed she will sleep like a log of wood". So she eats, is changed for the night, a little play time and in less than an hour and a half she is asleep, till the next morning. This gives Temi and I time to gist, catch up on the day, then if I can I squeeze in a little reading and writing. Like they say little by little one will accomplish all one has set out to.

About my weight journey, its coming out well, my tummy is still big, but let's see what will happen in the coming months.

About the eating right, I think we are doing good in that department, no fizzy drinks in the house, even though I must say that sometimes I just want to buy some bottles of coca cola and just drink it...ahhh refreshing....

I joined a writers challenge in the month of January we were suppose to write between 500 to 2000 words everyday for the whole month. hmmm I must say that was one of the hardest things to do, I wrote up to 17k words, would have loved to write more than that maybe the 30k range but oh well, I am happy that I have been able to do this.

Now: what do I want for this blog: like I said I will try my best to post motivational articles, things that interest me, my products and hope that I will get some sales for them. I have a few gifts I will like to give out, I hope it gets out of my house before Val's day..

NOTE:  I think I have talked to much...was just telling my friend that I think I have fallen into the category of to much talk and no action... now action is the key...

Happy new year once again, Sweet dreams.

Happy New Year

Wow happy new year everybody. I am so grateful seeing this new year. There are a lot of interesting things I have planned out for this year and hopefully I will be able to achieve everyone of it. Now notice I didn't say "New years resolution..lol but they are still my goals and I look forward to achieving everyone of it.

1. Every year I make up my mind that I will get at least one of my books published and finally join the published authors of our time...this has not been an easy feet at all, even though I know deep down maybe I haven't really wanted it so bad, so I have decided to work with a professional editor and have a good edit of my book, if it means denying myself a lot of things I will have to do that, after all they say the end justifies the means. After this I will send my books to every publisher I can think of, if I am not accepted then I have decided that I will go the self publishing route been reading alot about E-publishing.

2.I have finally over come my fear of failing and following my dreams about hand crafts. So from time to time I will be posting my products on my blog for sale and I hope that I will make sales as well. Do not have the money for a website now, so for the mean time I will depend on social media, Facebook, word of mouths, my blog and small trunk shows.

3. I made up my mind that even though I haven't achieved all that I set out to do, I am still so grateful for what God has done in my life and is still doing. So in other to show my gratitude, from time to time I will be giving away free gifts ranging from books to any of my beautiful products. So stay tune and keep coming back to my blog cos you never know when it may be your lucky day.

4. I just started this writers challenge on the 2nd of this month, where we all have to write between 500 to 2000 words everyday and post our progress weekly till the end of January. Now I must say this is so easy but very difficult at the same time, but I must say I have been able to keep it up and like the way its been going. If I am able to do this, then I would have developed the habit of writing everyday no matter how little. Now if you write 2k words a day in the space of 30 days you will have written about 60k words by the end of the month, now that is a novel... so will keep you updated on everything.

5. Temi and I have decided to be more pro active on eating healthy and cutting down on the carbs and fizzy drinks. Eat a lot more fruits and veggies and exercise at least three times a week. Mind you I am still on my mission to loose my baby fat, so lets see how it goes.

6. Reading my bible and praying more often. For me I don't do anything without acknowledging the fact that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

7. As a writer I must be a reader as well, so reading doesn't go out of my to do list. Falling in love more and more with e-readers. more convenient and can be carried everywhere.

Finally I will not beat myself up if I cannot achieve any of these things above, but I promise to do my best and look back and give myself a pat on the back.

I hope we all have interesting plans for the new year and I look forward to learning a lot from you all.

P.S. did I forget to add my interest in fashion as well and that I am going to revamp my blog? I haven't added that I will do all this while taking care of my daughter and my family. Now this mama is going to be a very busy mama, no time for frivolities.....LOL

Take care of yourself and have a happy new year.
